Sepia Jewels - Inspiration From a Historical Past Time

Se.pi.a :

A reddish-brown color associated particularly with monochrome photographs of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Beautiful and delicate comes to mind when looking at antiquated letters.  The deliberate strokes from the dip pen make the words even more enchanting.
*
The idea of Sepia Jewels first surfaced when a Victorian poem journal was given to me.  Each page was adorned with amazing handwritten script that sparked my appreciation of writing.  I immediately thought of small jewels that would be accented by this historical past time.
*

The Sarah McCleery Necklace

This particular piece was experimental.  I wanted to layer different vintage materials of an antique crocheted flower accented with a mother of pearl button on a Victorian handwritten script.
*
I felt that the design was strong and will pave the way for more similar designs.
*

Among the Victorian handwritten letters, I also wanted to include pieces that would accent the theme of writing.
*
Vintage European Stamps were upcycled to whimsical adornments accented by Czech glass beads that have been fire polished in opalescent hues.

Time's Great Morning - Poetry

                                                                                                                        Love - 1895 - Klimt
 Time's Great Morning

Come to me today
fill your eyes with emerald green
carry with you our secret
of this forbidden lay
that we mask and disguise
to mold and solve on each wicked goodbye
watermark my body
with thy lips
embellish our destiny
with your gaze
secure our misfortunes
by looking away
melt your uncertainty
with my warm honey
take heed on this majestic discovery
a dream, our fate
that soars above the scattered tree's canopy
a belief, our story
that can be met
in the realm of Time's great morning
this is never ending
I will be thy lady for eternity

I found this piece at a local antique store over the Summer break.  I had that excitement and giddy feeling that only happens when you are a kid.  Like walking down the staircase to see your Christmas presents under the tree.  I felt like I had just uncovered a tomb of some great pharaoh and I was going to share it with the world!  Not only was it incredibly beautiful but the wax seal had wonderful energy!

It's moments like that for a treasure hunter that your heart races and your cheeks get rosy!

Today's Dreaming - A Short Story

Today's Dreaming

She would glance over her shoulder to see if he was watching.
Occasionally dipping in and out of the sunlight.
Her half grin became translucent in the afternoon glow.  A memory that would radiate throughout the day.  Her casual and deliberate sway would rustle her modest dress.  When ankles became bare, his eyes would deepen in lust.  Their laughter and forbidden play swept the dock like the small waves that gathered around their hearts.
They were in love.
Time was with them when a pocket watch was tossed in the air.  A moment reminding them that this lifetime was unfair.
Bitter sweet sun rays danced and peeked through the eyelets of her parasol like little windows that were left open during morning hue.  Her face warm with such light and happiness that was fleeting.  For she softly opened her eyes to meet today's dreaming.

Awakening of the Enchanted Muse - A Realization of Style

Awakening of the Enchanted Muse

I would like to think of the enchanted Muse as myself at a young age.  Like most little girls, I was mesmerized by unicorns and faeries.  I loved any good fairy tale and even a spooky ghost story.  I was the child that had a wild imagination.  I told my classmates that my name was Victoria and that I lived in a Victorian house with a spiral staircase.  (Which was partly true.)  Not only did I have a creative mind, but I was in tune with my surroundings.  Like the staircase that led up to our attic, (Which I found myself completely drawn to.) I would create stories that I felt were fitting for an old house.  In my bedroom, a window overlooked a balcony that was connected to my parents room.  I would wake up to the sound of birds singing and imagined myself to be a princess.  My house with a wrapped around porch became a castle surrounded by a moat...

My innocence was unveiled by what my imagination created.

With the passing of time and loss of my youth...a two dimensional plane became my life.  I was no longer aware of the dimension that made this world luminous.

Now with each passing year after my son's birth, enchantment has slowly crept back into my life.  It was not intentional or sought after.  I merely was creating from the heart.  Customers would make comments on my jewelry booth, "Enchanting!".  I shook my head in confusion.  I had no idea.  Then people would recommend Faery Festivals for my jewelry.  "Are you sure my work would fit it?", I would say.  Truly not seeing what they saw.
Then recently, after reviewing my jewelry photos, I started to let the enchantment in.
I finally began to "see" what everyone was talking about.

With the my son's innocence and my passion for jewelry, the Enchanted Muse has awoken.

The Chatelaine Necklace

She collected her odds and ends.

Elements that were left behind.

A sweet remembrance of independence in a

young girl's mind.

She held onto remnants of heavenly tidbits...

that paid her way.

A Chatelaine made by a poor Seamstress

 that can be worn today.

Illustrating in Layers - Mixed Media

~ Forever Strong Womanhood ~

"Le Corsetaire"
 Terah Ware

Because of this turning point in my life as a stronger woman, I wanted to convey messages in my paintings to women by illustrating issues of control, strength and power. I chose the turn of the century, the Edwardian Era, as a backdrop for my paintings because the time period was filled with conformity. Much like my earlier acceptance of average circumstances, Edwardian women based their daily decisions by the influence of their society. In each painting, I incorporated a confident or submissive woman to represent their specific challenge or obstacle. We should appreciate their travels and congratulate the journey they conquered to reach today.

To view more paintings from the series, visit "Forever Strong Womanhood".

Note:  The above painting has layers of acrylic paint, pastels, India ink, handmade papers, vintage textiles, and a vintage stamp from Prague on illustration board.

Reveal

I am finally keeping one of my DESIGNS for ME!

This Antique Brass Key Hole Plate holds sentimental value.  I was about nineteen years old and I decided to stop at a barn that advertised "Antiques".  An elderly gentleman met me at the door and introduced me to his wonderful collection.  I ended up leaving with a bag of antique hardware that I had NO IDEA what I was going to do with!  I just knew that they were beautiful!

Fourteen years later...I am giving them a NEW life!

Innocence

 Innocence

She filled her vessel with what she knew.
Collecting her childhood memories.
More innocent than few.
A light, a ray, a whisper in the air.
Sweet tendrils of her golden hair.
